An update from The Meeting Northwest

You may have already notice but currently our site appears either currently out-of-date or sends you an error or attempts to download when you try to load it. None of these things will harm your system however I know they are quite annoying. Thank you for sticking with us.

I just received an email from our site host and have found out that an upgrade on their end has caused much of themeetingnw.com to display improperly, if at all.

They are working on a few things, as am I and bit by bit, all will return to normal soon. Thank you for keeping up on our latest news.

Little changes come

I've made a few more decisions that have eliminated some of the thing we offer here at The Meeting Northwest in order to further refine The Spokane Music Calendar.

• Fliers on Myspace have been discontinued.

We really hope you do continue to post them on our comments, however, saving each flier, adding comments and organizing them have taken up too much time in the past. Maybe in the future.


• Our Upcoming shows page has officially be renamed to Future shows

In reality, the entire calendar is a list of future shows (so long as I'm doing my job correctly) but this is a list of even farther-in-the-future shows. You will find a link to this page under Other links in the menu section of any page on our site. So there.


• Added a 'Print' feature to The Spokane Music Calendar and our Future shows pages.
Please feel free to print off the calendar as use at will. Make copies for your friends. Make copies for my friends.

Calendar posting. Myspace blog style.

I've posted today's calendar in our Myspace blogs, something I haven't done in quite awhile. I thought I'd give it another chance since Myspaces' formatting no longer seems to turn the listings into an unreadable, jumbled mess. If you find that you can't tell where one listing starts and another ends, please let me know.

If you do like the ease of viewing the calendar in our Myspace blogs instead of going to our site at themeetingnw.com, post a comment on this and we'll make it a habit to make things easier for ya.

Old fliers? No thanks.

After quite a while of cataloging past concert fliers I have decided to stop. As it stands, I have a digital copy of (nearly) every flier from January 2008 to present.

I don't know why.

I no longer plan on keeping old fliers either on line or on my hard drive. Eliminating this one step in the process of posting The Spokane Music Calendar should allow me more time to bring you a more complete product. If you would like a copy of any of these, please email me. There are many ways to do so.

Test #2

I've had some problems with the site today. I may have accidentally deleted the files that control my menus and such. Some folders were messed up causing this blog to not upload correctly. This is a test to see if that issue has been resolved.

I'm Indecisive | To Northwest or not.

One of my main objectives with The Meeting has always been to be current and up-to-date. I figure that out-of-date info is as useful to you and I as the QVC Channel. If you don't know what the QVC Channel is, then I've made my point. Google it.

You may know that I originally started the site in Spokane as a musicians information site. I later introduced the weekly calendar which, consuming most my time, caused the rest of the site to stagnate; the one thing I set out against. Fast forward a few years to about a year ago and I was calling it quits.

Or so I thought.

Currently, The Meeting Northwest is lined up to be a Pacific northwest directory of music related -ness. What the hell does that mean? To be honest, I'm not sure. I have purchased the domain themeetingnw.com and rewrote the links on the site so that every click goes where you'd expect it to. You can check it out here. Awesome!? No, terrible. This opens up the door to the next step. To generate content. I knew it would happen but I didn't know it would be so much of a pain.

Remember, I am still not sure as to what content I would ultimately like to include. Not a fact I would call a step in the right direction. Furthermore, info still needs to be gathered, sorted and verified. Only then, according to my current plan, could it be uploaded to the site for your enjoyment. Also, I would need a system for re-verification of any posted info that would certainly change over time.

In short, I'm overwhelmed.

So...I've decided that instead of tinkering with incomplete info, I will once again resurrect the Spokane section to its fullest extent. This way, I can focus on perfecting my style and organization before taking on more than I can handle. I at least want to get to a point where I can explain what drives me. There is music out there to be heard. I'm going to make it easier for you to find it.

Summary. The Northwest idea has proven difficult and I'm going to take a break. During this break, I will be informing the good people of Spokane as to which performers/groups/bands they can see on any given night. Until I stop.

11/04/2007 - Oregon links now up and running correctly. There's still no info but you can get around now to...no info. Happy clicking.

Washington is still messed up pretty bad. Should have that tomorrow or so.

11/03/2007 - Added the news section on the main page. I'll be posting here the same news and info that I'll post there. That way, when you go check out the site, some of it will look familiar.

Continuing work on relinking menus after the change to themeetingnw.com. All my html links point to themeetingspokane.com which no longer takes you anywhere. If you're interested in Spokane info, it's all still working, just moved. (The previous statement is no longer true. We've since removed spokane.html; clicking on the link 'Spokane' above will now direct you to our home page.)

Idaho links should all be working correctly.

You may notice some "issues" with the site until further notice. That's a joke. I'm looking forward to only having "issues". As of now, I have big ass problems.

More to do that I could imagine.

Wow. Running The Meeting Spokane was one thing. Over two years or so I was able to collect emails and addresses of places you, musician, might need. Info on how to get your music head on the radio, who to talk to at your venue of choice to get a show or where to print stickers with your awesome logo. You get the idea.

I got bored eventually. To the point where I wasn't even updating the few pages I offered. I spent my time instead, about a year, on a ridiculous local calendar that paled in comparison to the one that can be found at http://www.spokanesidekick.com.

Side note: The Spokane Sidekick is awesome!

Yeah! A year of deteriorating, stale info and a complete lack of completeness.
So, the calendar was out.
I dropped the "band list". (I put that in quotes because it was a joke.)
Got rid of the guest book. [Read: spam folder]

What now?

I found that only option was to overload myself by taking on the entire Pacific Northwest. How hard could it be? All I would have to do is research every city, find out which business offered products and services geared toward musicians, and catalog every venue in an area of about 253,263 sq. mi. No problem.

As of today, the site is "functional." (There are those quotes again) I've set up a skeleton directory so that everything links the way it should. -ish. I imagine I'll be working out the bugs in that one for quite awhile.

The content side is a little more difficult. It's really no problem to endlessly search the internet for content. My problem comes when that content is, often, severely lacking. I could really use some help. [Hint, hint] I've sent out emails to venues in Portland, asking them to confirm the info I have so far found; sort of a test runt to see how much help I can expect from area business.

So far, so good.
